Idea 3

My third idea was to do a book focusing on an anniversary. I didn’t know whether to do a series of anniversaries that would be occurring in 2014 or pick one topic to focus on. I think there is  quite a lot of products similar to this already out there so I wouldn’t be introducing anything new. If I did the anniversaries in 2014 it would have been better if I had created it at the start of the year as we are nearly halfway through the year and many of the anniversaries have already been,although I don’t if that is too bad ,because you can always look back and see what happened in that year.


Target Audience

I think this type of media product would have a big audience. I think any age and gender could possibly buy this, I think parents could buy it for their young children so when they are older they will be able to look back at it and see what was happening during that time and what was being celebrated.


S.W.O.T

  • STRENGTHS – 
  • Could become a keepsake,something to look back at
  • It could go into part of a collection
  • Would be interesting to research
  • Wide Audience

 

  • WEAKNESSES – 
  • Nothing new- an anniversary book
  • I’m not keen on the idea myself,so may lost interest
  • It would depend what the book was about to how well it would sell,because any topic I base it on will gain a different audience

 

  • OPPORTUNITIES – 
  • Lots of research
  • Could be quite iconic
  • As it is topical,I think would be a lot of people that want buy it (could go in STRENGTHS too)

 

  • THREATS – 
  • Finding enough information
  • Not got a unique selling point, might be overlooked

 

Idea 2

Another one of my ideas was to gather sayings / well-known quotes like “Money doesn’t grow on trees” then adding a sarcastic/funny comment like “What if it did…?” . I liked this idea because I haven’t come across anything like it before,so I thought it was quite interesting and something different. People come out with sayings and quotes all of the time but we don’t really ever question them and just go along with them,sometimes just pretending that we understand what they mean. I was going to make this into a small book ,including my own illustrations. I imagined the quote being in the middle of the page in a big font using different types of typography ,with the additional comment at them bottom. I would like to have used quite soft ,pastel colours for this book as I feel that it would fit in well with what the book was about.


Target Audience

I think this media product would be aimed at an older audience because of what it includes. Younger children would have unlikely heard of many of the sayings,let alone if they sayings were being picked a part,I feel someone that young would not understand what was happening. I would aim this book towards 15+,as I think anyone this age would have heard of the sayings/quotes and understand what I meant with the comments. I also think it can be aimed at both genders as the saying and quotes would be worldly, well-known phrases. I don’t know if I would completely leave out gender specific quotes though, I may just not have as many as ones that apply to both genders.

  • May not come across as funny
  • People not being familiar with a lot of the quotes – will be difficult to make fun of, if people don’t know what they mean

  • Something different – unique selling point
  • Might help get sold as it’s a new idea , not usual

 

  • THREATS – 
  • Although I believe this has a unique selling point,there is a lot of quote based products around,so people may judge before they actually know what it is about.

Idea 1

HEY,IT’S OK TO…

This was my first idea where I had taken inspiration from the magazine, GLAMOUR. They have a feature in there called HEY,IT’S OK…This is where the editors and public send in comments that they feel the public reading it will sympathise with and agree with. They are often humorous. This is one of my favourite features of the magazine . I didn’t want to create it in exactly the same way and was going to make it in to a book,with one comment and illustration on each  page.  So my creation would not have been completely original ,it would have been quite similar to the original. My idea has its own spin on it,as it will be in book form and not all on one page, but I don’t know if it is too similar to the idea from the magazine.


Target Audience

I think this idea seems as if it would be aimed more towards women because of where the original idea comes from (A woman’s magazine called Glamour). However I think it could be suited to both genders,I would just have to choose what I included carefully,so that it would appeal to both sexes. This would open my product to a bigger audience as more people would be able to relate to it. I believe this book would be aimed towards 16-28 year olds as I believe that this is when you are influenced  most by what you read and hear. You are out socialising a lot so you meet lots of different characters which you may be able to relate to if you read the points I would make in the book as they would apply to a whole range of topics.

  • I’m familiar with this format
  • I can picture what it looks like and I haven’t even started it
  • Popular selling format
  • I would enjoy making and hopefully not lose motivation

  • Pages may look too empty
  • Similar idea to where I got my inspiration from
  • No unique selling point

 

  • OPPORTUNITIES – 
  • Get to talk to lots of people and get opinions
  • Get to improve my design/layout skills

 

  • THREATS – 
  • People may not respond to me
  • Might not get enough answers to create a book big enough
